01Reddit to Shut Down RSS on November 13 and End Public API Access in March 2027
Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13 and end public access to its API by March 2027, closing two free routes used to retrieve content from its forums. The company says both changes are intended to curb large-scale AI scraping and automated abuse.
RSS is a standardized web feed that lets people and applications subscribe to website updates. On Reddit, it has served both ordinary users following communities through feed readers and moderators who use RSS channels for alerts. Reddit said the technology has become a common entry point for mass scraping, prompting the November shutdown.
Moderators are being advised to move alert workflows to Discord Relay, an application built with Reddit’s Devvit developer platform, before RSS support ends. Some moderators have warned that losing their existing feeds could make communities harder to manage. The proposed migration does not cover everyone: Reddit said it has no replacement for RSS feeds used outside moderators’ communities, leaving external subscribers without an announced alternative.
The broader restriction arrives in March 2027, when Reddit will end public access to its application programming interface, or API—the system that lets outside software retrieve and process Reddit conversations automatically. The change will affect research tools, social-listening services that monitor online discussions, and AI products such as assistants.
AI assistants can currently draw on Reddit posts when answering questions through the public API. After that access closes, such products will need a commercial agreement with Reddit to continue using its conversational data through the API. The company has not disclosed the pricing or eligibility requirements for those agreements.
Approved third-party applications and bots have a separate route, but their developers must register them with Reddit by January 12, 2027, to avoid disruption. Reddit said it will remove API access after that date for developers who have not registered, making approval and registration prerequisites ahead of the wider public shutdown.
Reddit is also tightening access to Old Reddit, its classic text-heavy interface, citing abusive scraping and automated traffic. Access will be limited to logged-in moderators and users who have used Old Reddit during the previous six months.
The restrictions come as Reddit earns money from licensing its user-generated forum content to AI companies. In its second quarter, the company said revenue outside advertising rose 24% year over year to $43 million. That figure covers “other revenue,” not AI licensing alone, but the growing business gives Reddit a financial interest in replacing unrestricted access with controlled or commercial arrangements.
02Google Unveils Gemini 4 Argon, Initially Limits Access to Trusted Cyber Defenders
Google has announced Gemini 4 Argon, a new flagship AI model designed for complex, long-running work in software engineering, enterprise research and cybersecurity. For now, it is rolling out only to selected trusted cyber defenders through Fairwind, Google’s early-access program for defensive security specialists.
Developers, businesses and consumers cannot yet use Argon because Google is releasing its cybersecurity capabilities in phases. The company is participating in the US government’s voluntary pre-release access process and says it will collect tester feedback and refine safeguards before expanding availability. It has not given a release date for that wider rollout.
Argon raises the maximum output from the previous generation’s 64,000 tokens to 1 million. Google says that headroom lets the model reason and generate hundreds of thousands of tokens during a single extended task. Its introductory price will be $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, while cached inputs—reused material that does not need to be processed afresh—will cost 95% less than standard inputs.
Google says thousands of its employees are already using Argon for coding, research and writing. Reported projects include optimizing quantum-computing algorithms, identifying data-center memory savings and migrating large C and C++ codebases to Rust. In one case, the company says Argon agents reworked 32,000 lines of code in the libgav1 video decoder, producing a memory-safe version that ran 2.7 times faster than an existing Rust port. Other reported results include freeing more than 300 TiB of data-center memory and beating a published quantum-optimization baseline by 40%.
The company also reports a 77.9% score on the DeepSWE v1.1 software-engineering benchmark, 51.3% on Zapier’s AutomationBench and 91.7% on the long-video test LVBench.
In cybersecurity, Google says Argon can autonomously find, verify and patch critical software vulnerabilities. Trusted defenders and Google’s internal teams will receive a version without cybersecurity guardrails, with access restricted through the Fairwind rollout. Google says Wiz used Argon to uncover a critical vulnerability affecting healthcare software, but the source provides no independent verification of that demonstration or details about how early participants are selected.
03Bain estimates AI market needs nearly $6 trillion in annual revenue if infrastructure spending reaches $1.5 trillion in 2031
The artificial intelligence market would need to generate nearly $6 trillion in annual revenue to sustain infrastructure spending of $1.5 trillion in 2031, according to a conditional estimate from Bain & Company. The consultancy’s calculation assumes capital expenditure would equal about 25% of industry revenue, a level it called ambitious but reasonable based on cloud-provider trends.
The estimate is not an observed revenue shortfall. It describes the market required if Bain’s infrastructure forecast and its capital-spending ratio both hold: dividing $1.5 trillion in annual capital expenditure by 25% produces a market approaching $6 trillion. That infrastructure spending includes new data centres, capacity expansions, and upgrades to GPUs, memory and networking equipment.
Most of the necessary revenue would have to come from products and markets that have not yet formed. Bain projects about $4.2 trillion from new products involving search, advertising, autonomy and physical AI. It cited drug discovery, mental health and energy generation as possible future applications, while acknowledging that such products do not exist today.
Enterprise productivity—including software development, sales, marketing, customer service and IT operations—would need to contribute another $1 trillion to $1.4 trillion. Consumer services, including subscriptions and advertising, are projected to provide $200 billion to $400 billion.
That breakdown explains why employee efficiency gains and consumer subscriptions alone would be insufficient. Even at the top of Bain’s ranges, those two categories would generate $1.8 trillion, leaving most of the projected market dependent on new products and uses. Bain calls the pace at which companies put AI into practical use “absorption speed” and says it has become a new competitive variable.
Supply and social constraints could also prevent the buildout from reaching Bain’s projected scale. The consultancy says data-centre size and cost are doubling roughly every 12 to 16 months, while expansion depends on additional grid capacity, access to GPUs and other components, and the recruitment and retention of skilled workers at rates far above historical levels. Regulation and public opposition over resource consumption and noise pollution could add further obstacles.
Bain did not disclose the complete methodology behind each revenue forecast. It also remains unknown whether the proposed new markets will emerge on schedule or whether the assumption that capital spending equals 25% of revenue will hold.
